I highly recommend Carrie Kingsbury as a muralist! She recently created a mural for our son’s room that is a fantastic addition to our home. From out experience working with her I can say that she is both a talented artist, with a true gift for creating pictures that will entertain and stimulate a young child, and a painstaking professional that is never satisfied with less than perfect work.

Before arriving at our home to start on the mural Carrie consulted with us over the phone to find out what we had in mind. Because we were uncertain what we exactly wanted, she spent time with us looking at crib sheets and baby cloths to help us choose a theme. She listened to our ideas and concerns, and created a preliminary sketch that reflected our ideas. We looked over the sketch and had the opportunity to make some additions (we added a few favorite animals and flowers!).

The next morning Carrie began the mural. She covered the floor of our soon-to-be nursery with plastic drop cloths and carefully taped all of the baseboards and the window molding to prevent paint drops from getting on them. She created a background of soft white and gold clouds for the ceiling. She quickly transferred the preliminary design to the walls. She began to fill in the sketch with water-based, non-toxic paints, and soon our walls came to life with a colorful jungle full of gentle cartoon animals, complete with a lagoon full of tropical fish and sea creatures.

It took her only a few days to complete the room, from taping baseboards to putting the finishing touches on the matching laundry hamper and nightlight we had asked her to do. The finished effect is amazing; each of the animals and fish has a distinct personality! There is a friendly looking lion watching over Malcom’s crib and a mischievious monkey looking down at his changing table, along with lots of happy creatures playing in palm trees and swimming in the water.

We are very happy with the finished product — our son will enjoy learning to name the animals and colors as he grows, and Carrie was great to work with. She listened to our ideas, answered our questions and worked with us to design a mural that we truly enjoy. She worked incredibly quickly and cleanly, and throughout the process she was courteous and professional. We could not have had a better experience in preparing our baby’s room!
